Internship Program

PSEB's Internship Program undertakes match-making between fresh IT graduates and IT companies, and provides grooming to graduates where necessary. Till date, 5100 graduates from 220 universities/institutes across the country have been placed in 250 IT companies and IT departments of public and private-sector organizations for a period of three months. The IT companies' retention rate has been more than 90%, the highest of any internship program in the country.

In "Internships Phase-III", the interns were paid a stipend of Rs. 6,000/- per month for a period of three months. Over 1,600 students benefited from this program, the scope of which was revised by the DDWP in November 2010 to place 500 more interns. The current stipend for the interns is Rs. 8,000/- per month; placement was in progress since November 2010 and now the same is completed.

Objectives:

  • Help IT/CS graduates make a smooth transition from academic to professional life. To develop confidence among IT companies' management regarding the quality of the graduates' professional competence.
  • Develop confidence among Pakistani IT business managers regarding the output of IT- oriented educational institutes.
  • Provide young and energetic IT human resource to IT companies for a period of three months free-of-cost (PSEB pays the stipend) and financially subsidize the IT industry.

Benefits of the Project

Financial

This project has helped the IT industry by providing them human resource without any cost. Results indicate that the interns' retention rate is above 90%, and this has resulted in the industry's growth.

Economic

This project has yielded direct and indirect economic benefits. Preliminary analyses indicate that it has resulted in employment generation, an improved quality-of-life, and an enhancement of micro-factors.

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA

For IT Companies:

  1. PSEB's member IT companies/software houses, and IT departments from public and private- sector organizations are accommodated
  2. If there are no companies involved in IT, IT-enabled services and IT departments of public and private-sector organizations, then students are brought in from other nearby centers, depending upon the requirement.

For Educational Institutes:

  1. At least 150 educational institutes offering degrees in computer sciences, Information Technology, business administration, bio-sciences, health sciences, liberal arts and graphic designing are selected from Pakistan's major cities, such as Islamabad, Karachi, Lahore, Peshawar, Quetta and Rawalpindi.
  2. All institutes/universities applying for the program are shortlisted in order to ensure maximum participation. Priority, however, is given to Higher Education Commission (HEC)-recognized institutes/universities.

For Interns:

  • Fresh IT graduates/working on final-degree projects from HEC-recognized educational institutes can apply
  • Candidates must have at least 16 years of education in the field of IT, Computer Science, Software Engineering, and/or Computer Engineering.
  • Every institute/university nominates its students based on its own evaluation criteria
  • Institutes are, however, instructed to nominate students possessing the following qualities:
    • Top grade-holder
    • Team player
    • Sound technical knowledge

For IT Companies:

For Educational Institutes:

  1. All educational institutes who want to work as a partner of internship project for internships of their IT graduates need to fill and submit the application form to PSEB.Download University Application Form

For Interns:

  3. Take recommendation letter from your university in favor of PSEB internship project.

Students all over Pakistan can visit their nearest PSEB office (Islamabad, Karachi or Lahore) to submit documents and inquire about their placement in IT companies.

NOTE:
After successfully completing the internship program, each intern needs to provide two feedback forms, along with an internship completion letter from the IT company.
