Reporting of IT/ITeS Exports Revenue to State Bank of Pakistan (SBP)

Dear Call Center,

According to State Bank of Pakistan (SBP), the collective exports receipts reported by the IT/ITeS Industry and Call Centers during FY 2013-14 were $370 million. Surprisingly, the share of more than 540 Call Centers registered with PSEB was only US$ 39.231 million (average exports of only $6054/month/call center). During July-Dec 2014, the exports receipts reported by State Bank for the IT/ITeS sector and Call Centers were US $ 228.87 million.

Based on feedback from SBP, one of the major reasons for such insignificant exports number is incorrect/nil reporting of export revenue by the call centers to SBP. The performance of our IT/ITeS  industry during July-Dec 2014 in terms of exports receipts reported to State Bank of Pakistan is as follows:

S #
SBP Code
Million US$
(July-Dec 2014)
Percentage of exports
Computer and Information Services

$ 202.21
Hardware Consultancy Services
$ 0.27
Software Consultancy Services
$ 43.31
Maintenance & Repairs of Computers
$ 0.44
Export of Computer Software
$ 132.13
Other Computer Services
$ 26.05
Call Centers
$ 26.66

$ 228.87

Whereas software houses and consultancies contributed 88% to Pakistan’s IT exports, call centers contributed only 11.65% to IT exports. However, PSEB strongly believes that the exports potential of our call centers is grossly under rated and the actual exports of this promising sector are much more than what is reflected in SBP figures. In line with its mission to make Pakistan the second largest IT exporter in South Asia by 2015-16, PSEB urges call centers and their banks to always mention 9102 as SBP code when reporting monthly exports income to SBP on the exports realization form.

Because use of informal money transfer channels or receiving company earnings in personal accounts is not reflected in the IT exports recorded by SBP, you are strongly encouraged to use only regular banking channels for receiving remittances from foreign customers or your principal office abroad.

PSEB hopes that call centers will increase their contribution to Pakistan’s IT exports from $39 million last year to at least $100 million during 2014-15. Your valued cooperation will certainly contribute to our mission of making Pakistan the second largest IT exporter in South Asia by 2015-16. Should you have any questions about exports reporting, then please do not hesitate to contact the undersigned.

Thank you,
