PSEB promotes the image of Pakistan’s IT industry in key markets abroad, enables trade interaction with international parties, and facilitates the entry of multinational development and support centers in Pakistan.

In the fiscal year 2007-2008, PSEB sponsored the participation of sixty-five member companies in seven international tradeshows and delegations, one domestic conference, participated in forty-two TV interviews, seven radio interviews, ninety-one magazine interviews and articles, and has issued over forty-two press releases, which resulted in several hundred articles. PSEB’s events were covered in several dozen TV news clippings.
 

PSEB ran four international promotional campaigns. Almost two hundred and eighty-two leads were passed on to member companies, in addition to over a thousand indirect leads.

To date in the current fiscal year 2008-2009, PSEB sponsored the participation of twenty-four member companies in one international tradeshow and two domestic conferences, participated in twenty-three TV interviews, nineteen magazine interviews and articles, and has issued over ten press releases, which resulted in several hundred articles.
 

Newly-appointed Secretary IT and Telecom, Mr. Naguibullah Malik, visited PSEB’s head office in Islamabad, where he was comprehensively briefed regarding PSEB’s activities.
 

Pakistan’s premier annual IT and telecom show, “ITCN ASIA 2009” will be held at Karachi Expo Center from 11th-13th August 2009. This exhibition provides a unique platform to IT companies to showcase their products and services, and to engage in business networking. Expressions of Interest are invited from PSEB’s member IT companies to participate in ITCN Asia 2009.
 

PSEB in continuation to its international marketing activities intends to publish a revised edition of IT Industry Year Book. Pakistan IT Industry Year Book aims to document the profiles of PSEB member IT companies into a publication that presented an accurate and detailed picture of the Pakistan IT Industry and its multifold growth over the past few years. In this regard a newsletter will be circulated in due course of time.
 

 


 



Office Space Provision

PSEB plans to build IT Parks in Pakistan’s different cities. It currently operates over 700,000 square feet of Software Technology Parks (STP) in eleven buildings across the country.
 

In the fiscal year 2007-2008, PSEB launched its first state-of-the-art National IT/Knowledge Park project through an international tender process to provide affordable and quality IT-enabled workspace to local and international ICT companies. PSEB acquired approximately 15 acres of land at a prime location in Islamabad for this IT Park. PSEB has also selected an international consortium as “Preferred Bidder/Developer” after evaluating its proposal.
 



Industry Human Capital

PSEB works with the Higher Education Commission (HEC) to increase the influx of quality graduates into the IT industry, facilitates the matching of graduates with IT companies, provides ongoing training and certification to professionals, and undertakes research to benchmark IT professionals and graduates in the country.
 

To date, in the current fiscal year, 1160 interns have been placed under PSEB’s “Internships Phase-III” project, which has been extended till December 2009.
 

Three companies have been selected for a specialized training grant in the current fiscal year.
 


 

 


Company Capability Development

PSEB sponsors IT companies’ quality and information security certification to enhance their international competitiveness.  
 

In the last fiscal year, 2007-2008, under PSEB-sponsored programs, fifteen CMMi L2 rating and five ISO 27001 certifications were obtained. Two companies became SEI transition partners, and three individuals became SCAMPI appraisers. Pakistan now has over 110 ISO-certified IT companies, over 200 ISO 9001 IT lead auditors, and will have over 25 CMMi-rated companies by the end of the current year, making it a world leader in this category.
 

The selection procedure of training companies for the lead implementer’s training in ISO 27001 is currently under process.


Facilitation

PSEB facilitates IT companies in their interaction with various Government agencies. It also launches programs in strategically-important areas where the private sector is shy of investing.
 
In the last year, the Open Source Resource Center (OSRC) has conducted twenty-six workshops, trained over four hundred and fifty people, facilitated one migration, and published internationally-recognized training toolkits.

 

In the last fiscal year 2007-2008, visa processing was facilitated for one hundred and fourteen individuals. Foreign currency remittance NOCs to purchase software were processed and issued to seven companies, and corporate advisory services have been provided to numerous companies and individuals.

PSEB registered twenty-two new IT companies and twenty-four new call centers during this reporting period. Thirty-one IT companies and nine call centers renewed their registration.
 

In the last fiscal year 2007-2008, the Open Source Resource Center (OSRC) conducted forty training workshops and awareness-raising seminars, trained over eight hundred and sixty people, facilitated four computer network migrations, and published a new, downloadable training toolkit on Asterisk Open Source PBX. It also sponsored and presented at two national conferences on open source technologies, and published two articles on open source.
 

OSRC’s latest article, entitled "Your Money-saving Guide to Open Source Resources", has been published in Dawn on Sunday newspaper's Sci-tech World section, on 5th April 2009. It highlights open source as a money-saving solution during the current global and national financial recession.
 

From 18th-20th May 2009, the OSRC trained 20 participants in Linux’s administration and migration track at the National Database and Registration Authority’s (NADRA) headquarters in Islamabad.
 

The OSRC will launch its 2-day, free-of-cost Open Source Database Management System Training Program, in collaboration with EnterpriseDB Corporation, USA, in Islamabad, Lahore and Karachi, using PostgreSQL, a powerful, open source object-relational database system. The tentative dates for the training program to be held in the following cities are:
 
* Islamabad: 29th-30th June 2009

* Lahore: 6th-7th July 2009

* Karachi: 13th-14th July 2009
