PSEB promotes the image of the Pakistan IT industry in key markets abroad, enables trade interaction with international parties, and facilitates the entry of multi-national development and support centres in Pakistan

In the fiscal year 08-09, four international promotional campaigns were run. Almost two hundred and eighty two leads were passed on to member companies in addition to over a thousand indirect leads. PSEB sponsored participation of twenty-four member companies in one international tradeshow and two domestic conferences, participated in twenty-three TV interviews, nineteen magazine interviews and articles and has issued over fourteen press releases, which resulted in several hundred articles.
 

To date in the current fiscal year 09-10, ten leads were passed on to member companies. PSEB sponsored participation of twenty-nine member companies in one domestic exhibition, participated in three TV interviews, four magazine interviews and articles.
 

Mr. Zia Imran has joined as a new Managing Director of Pakistan Software Export Board (PSEB). He has over 17 years experience working in senior managerial positions in sales, consulting, product management and product development at Oracle, Altera and other hi-tech companies. MR. Zia Imran has been bit by the entrepreneurial bug and is a serial entrepreneur who has started software companies both in the US and in Pakistan. He has also been teaching entrepreneurship at FAST-NUCES Lahore for the past couple of years. Mr. Zia Imran is an MBA (Finance and Entrepreneurship) from the University Of Chicago Graduate School Of Business. He is also an MS (Computer Engineering) from Cornell University and a B.Sc. (Electrical Engineering) from UET, Lahore.
 

PSEB had arranged a post inauguration session on January 19, 2010 at Shaheen Complex Lahore at 05:00 pm. This session was chaired by Federal Secretary IT and leaders from IT & Telecom Industry were present to interact directly with MoIT and PSEB and discussed future IT plans. A tour to the facility was also organized for honorable guests. The CEOs of IT companies shared the progress, achievements, and challenges faced by their respective entities with the Secretary IT and Managing Director, PSEB, Mr. Talib Baloch. PSEB and MOITT are in the process of identifying viable solutions to address these challenges and to enhance the growth and credibility of Pakistan’s IT industry. Office Space Provision

PSEB plans to build IT Parks in different cities and currently operates over 750,000 square feet of Software Technology Parks (STP) in eleven buildings across the country.
 

To address immediate office-space requirements of IT companies in Lahore, PSEB has converted Shaheen Complex located at Edgerton Road and owned by M/S Shaheen Foundation, into an IT Park. The state-of-the-art nine-story Complex has a total covered area of 360,000 square feet and a rentable office space of 217,000 square feet with two basements and is equipped with high speed redundant fiber connectivity and entails the most modern and top of the line civic amenities.

In dedication to the vision of Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Butto the First Woman Prime Minister of the Islamic World the President of Pakistan inaugurated the fully operational and most sophisticated Information Technology Park Shaheen Complex Lahore on January 16, 2010. The state-of-the-art nine-story Shaheen Complex has a total covered area of 360,000 square feet and a rentable office space of 217,000 sq.ft. with two basements and is equipped with high speed fiber connectivity with redundancy and entails the most modern and top of the line civic amenities. The complex offers backup power supply, express lifts, access control and close circuit TV (CCTV) for vigilant security monitoring, centralized heating, ventilation and air conditioning, fully integrated fire detection and voice evacuation system, ample car parking and other civil defense essentials.
 


 

Industry HC

PSEB works with the Higher Education Commission (HEC) to increase the influx of quality graduates into the industry, facilitates matching of graduates with IT companies, provides on-going trainings and certifications to professionals, and undertakes research to benchmark IT professionals and graduates in the country.
 

To date, in the current fiscal year, 1675 interns have been placed under the Internships Phase-III Project. The Project has been extended till December 2009.
 


Company Capability Development

PSEB sponsors quality and information security certification of IT companies in order to enhance their international competitiveness. 
 

In the last fiscal year, 2008-2009, under PSEB-sponsored programs, fifteen CMMi L2 rating and five ISO 27001 certifications were obtained. Two companies became SEI transition partners, and three individuals became SCAMPI appraisers. Pakistan now has over 110 ISO-certified IT companies, over 200 ISO 9001 IT lead auditors, and will have over 25 CMMi-rated companies by the end of the current year, making it a world leader in this category.
 

PSEB sponsors quality and information security certification of IT companies in order to enhance their international competitiveness.
 

Quality Assurance Institute (QAI) has successfully recommended iEngineering Pakistan Ltd. for CMMi Level 2.

 




Facilitation

PSEB facilitates IT companies in their interaction with various Government agencies. It also launches programs in strategically-important areas where the private sector is shy of investing.
 
In the last year, the Open Source Resource Center (OSRC) has conducted twenty-six workshops, trained over four hundred and fifty people, facilitated one migration, and published internationally-recognized training toolkits.

 

In the last fiscal year 2008-2009, visa processing was facilitated for one hundred and fourteen individuals. Foreign currency remittance NOCs to purchase software were processed and issued to seven companies, and corporate advisory services have been provided to numerous companies and individuals.

Fourteen new IT companies were registered with PSEB during this reporting period with fifteen new call centres. Twenty-eight IT companies and three call centres have renewed their registration.
 

In the last fiscal year 2007-2008, the Open Source Resource Center (OSRC) conducted forty training workshops and awareness-raising seminars, trained over eight hundred and sixty people, facilitated four computer network migrations, and published a new, downloadable training toolkit on Asterisk Open Source PBX. It also sponsored and presented at two national conferences on open source technologies, and published two articles on open source.
 

OSRC’s latest article, entitled "Open Source to the rescue", has been published in Spider magazine's print edition (November 2009).
